+ What are Aku Products used for?

Aku’s products are used as wellness tools for overall health and vitality. Most commonly they are used to support deep sleep, healthy circulation, relaxation of tense muscles, relief from stress and anxiety and general vitality. These benefits are accessible through the principles of acupressure.

+ What is Acupressure?

Acupressure is a thousands-year-old form of massage therapy that involves applying pressure to certain points on the body to address ailments. According to traditional Chinese medicine, we have meridians or channels throughout the body. Qi, which is understood as a life-sustaining energy force, runs along those meridians. Qi can become stuck at some points along the meridians, and the goal of acupressure is to keep the energy flowing using pressure at specific points.

+ Is the Aku Mat painful?

When using the Aku Mat, thousands of spikes apply pressure to your skin and muscles. If you’re like most, this experience can be intense and prickly at first. This typically lasts a couple of minutes before a tingly sensation occurs and the area begins to warm. Any pain then evaporates, muscles start to relax, and tension subsides. This progression leads to feelings of bliss, and a state of such deep relaxation.

As unique individuals, we all have different sensitivity to pain. For some adjusting to the Aku Mat can take just a couple of minutes, while for others it can take a few sessions. Over time, you will adjust to the initial intensity, as your body learns to respond more readily to the pressure applied by the Mat.

+ What’s the best way to use the Aku Mat?

The Aku Mat works on contact. When you press the Aku Mat against your body, the spikes exert pressure on your skin. The back and feet are most common, however, any area of your body can be targeted. There is no time limit or frequency of an Aku session. We recommend you aim for 10-15 minutes to experience the full acupressure effect.

At first, start with a thin t-shirt or socks on while your body adjust to the initial intensity. However, bare skin is the most effective and powerful experience. Use your Mat on any surface. Common places include in bed, on the floor, on a seat, or on a couch.

+ Why Metal instead of Plastic?

Opposed to cheap, toxic plastics used in other acupressure mats, we use high-grade, antimicrobial metals that are naturally occurring in the human body.

When conductive metals, such as silver and copper, come in contact with the skin you"ll experience a natural warming effect that is both healing and therapeutic. Though our products look intense, your body instinctively reacts with the metals creating a revitalizing sensation like no other.

Our metals: silver, zinc, iron, copper and nickel.

+ How do I clean my Aku?

Our patented spikes can be gently cleaned with a soft brush, warm water and sprinkled with any disinfectant solution between sessions, if needed.

+ Can I use Aku while Pregnant?

We do not recommend use of the Aku Mat to women who are pregnant. Always consult your medical professional before using the Aku Mat, if you are pregnant.

+ What are the risks of using Aku?

Please see our Medical Disclaimer for more details.

+ I have sensitive skin, can I use Aku?

If you have very sensitive skin and feel discomfort while using Aku, we recommend wearing thin cotton clothing, rather than the usual bare skin. Also, it may help to limit your massage to between two and ten minutes for the first few sessions. Using Aku Mat on a soft surface, such as a mattress or couch, rather than the floor, also reduces the initial intensity of the pressure.
